A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens. With time, the cataract blurs vision and causes glare.
At Mona Vale Eye Centre, cataract surgery is the most common eye operation performed. We offer small-incision cataract surgery (phacoemulsification), and always replace the cataract with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). We use  aspheric IOL, which has been shown to improve image quality.

The surgery is normally performed under local anaesthetic  and takes approximately 20 minutes. This gives quick recovery and offers lower risk than with general anaesthetic and traditional surgical methods.  Patients are discharged home the same day and reviewed the next day.

Surgery is performed in Mona Vale at Pittwater Day Surgery and Dalcross Adventist Hospital.
